March 2018

Previous trips: April 2016 & March 2017

In March 2018, Tim Crum will (again) lead shelter professionals from the U.S. on a tour of various animal shelters throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.  This is hands-on, immersive experience is a great way to see and learn first-hand from your counterparts in another country.  Past participants have enjoyed this experience so much that we continue to offer this trip annually.   You may also make new friends from other shelters here in the U.S. or from Ireland!

To take part in the 2018 study abroad program, all participants are required to pay a non-refundable $100 administrative fee ($80 if paid prior to October 1, 2017).   Any participant who voluntarily elects to cancel their trip after paying the administrative fee is not eligible for a refund.  No exceptions.

Each year since 2009, Humane College selects 12-18 cities throughout the United States to bring our workshop series to that region.  This saves you both the cost and time of having to travel to attend a training.

Strategic Fundraising for Your Animal Shelter or Rescue Group
Now, more than at any point in history, fundraising is critical to the long-term success of any non-profit animal welfare organization.  This workshop will examine where your donor dollars really come from and how an annual fundraising calendar of monthly events will help to keep the money flowing.  Our interactive workshop will guide participants in the development of a comprehensive, strategic plan to help increase fundraising dollars and donors. This is a must for anyone who has the responsibility of raising money for an animal shelter or rescue group.

Understanding Board Governance and How Boards Should Operate
This workshop tackles one of the more misunderstood and confusing subjects in the nonprofit animal sheltering world - board governance.  In plain language, and backed by decades of work with nonprofit animal shelter boards across the country, Tim will share the very reasons why nonprofit animal sheltering and rescue group boards are struggling with their roles and responsibilities - and how YOU can make simple systematic and structural changes to maximize the efficacy of your board.
